Alix and Alex are University of Texas graduates and decided to get married in their college hometown, Austin, TX. We are based in San Antonio so it was super fun to be an Austin wedding photographer for the weekend. They were married at Central Christian Church in the heart of downtown. Their reception, the gorgeous Allen House, was located directly behind the church.
We stopped by the Stephen F. Austin hotel for some fun getting ready pictures of Alix and Alex and their bridal crew. Alix gave the best bridesmaid gift, Fuji Instafilm cameras! The bridesmaids and bridesman immediately put them to use.
The couple did not do a first look so we took them each out separately in front of the church for their portraits. Photographing downtown had all the urban vibes you would imagine. Taxi cabs and buses flying down the street, pedestrians cheering the bride on as they pass by, and bikers waving to the bridal party as they were getting their photos taken. As a temporary Austin wedding photographer, we were soaking it all up.
Central Christian Church is an older church with large stain glass windows and old geometric tile which is coming back in style. Make sure to check out the bouquet and ring photo with that amazing tile as a backdrop.
We decided to do all their formal portraits outside instead of at the altar. The weather was amazing and we couldn’t resist using natural light for portraits that are normally done inside with a strobe light. Our favorite picture is the black and white one of Alix and Alex with their hands in the air after their portraits are complete. Job well done, you two!
The Allen House (a quick walk from the church)is a great place for a reception. The couple handed out props for the dance floor later in the evening. Alex’s last name is Burger and they had hamburger hats! They also had delicious hamburgers delivered just before the part was over. Late night snacks and props make nice touches for your guests. Check out this party who handed out honey butter chicken biscuits!
