Santikos Mayan Palace

Originally built in 1968, Santikos Mayan Palace has gone through several renovations.  The most current update gave the theater a full service bar, reclined seating, a spacious lobby, and full kitchen.  It is the only Santikos location on the Southside and they are making sure it’s a mainstay. Santikos is a social enterprise that directly benefits the local community.

After passing through the huge lobby there are two arcade areas conveniently located next to the party room which is available to rent.  They’ve made this place a kid’s paradise. But don’t worry!  They didn’t forget about the adults.  Wait till you see the bar.

Santikos said a great menu is a staple when you go the the movies.  They have a full kitchen, mini donuts, funnel cakes, and even Dr.Pepper flavored cotton candy.

Their kitchen allows them to make pizza and other bar snacks.

The Santikos staff gave me a tour both upstairs and downstairs.  Downstairs is where all the customers enter the theaters and get their snacks.  Upstairs is where the projection room is located and where they keep important things like all the kernels for the popcorn!! Unfortunately, the reels I saw with film are now considered “vintage.”  They have projectors that all use digital media.

The seating not only reclines but is super comfortable as shown below.  The theater is  surrounded by state of the art speakers.

The showstopper of the tour was the Chamoy Mango Margarita.  This is one of many options they offer at the fun, color filled, Mayan Bar. I guess you could call this the party room for adults.

Santikos is not your average theatre. They’re a mission! The money made at Santikos Entertainment gets reinvested back into the community and helps fund over 200 local non-profit organizations. In 2017 alone, Santikos Entertainment, through the San Antonio Area Foundation, gave $26 million dollars back to the community.

Thank you to Santikos Mayan Palace for letting us come and visit!
